Nyx

Introduction

When the Day of the Comet came, much of what was sank into the world below. Into the murky ebon twilight of a most ancient realm, Nyx. Since the very first sparks of light danced behind the eyelids of our ancestors, this realm began to swirl with Dreams.

And yet, in sleep, there too, are Nightmares…

Nyx is a role-playing game, set in a darkened realm of sleep and dreams. It is an interpretive game, wherein the strange setting is only just barely glimpsed, like a dream half-remembered when one wakes from slumber. It is up to the players and the Dream Master (DM), to interpret the vague setting details as they see fit, and form a vision of Nyx wholly their own.

Nyx is intended to be an adventure game, where the players venture out into the wild yonder and confront the deep darkness of the world. It is encouraged that the adventures be vague, surreal, a little frustrating, and disquieting. Dreamlike, if you will.

But of course, it is up to you to interpret what your dreams mean.

The World

• Strike out at the infinite darkness! Nyx is a combat-focused RPG with an emphasis on deep levels of customization, and lightning-fast play. The full release will have hundreds of spells and abilities, each with a unique mechanical benefit. It is a game intended for play with a DM, and three to six players.
• All may be subsumed. Nyx uses a creative syntax that is appropriate for all ages, and emphasizes simple dice rolls, rather than too much addition. The intent is to keep play speedy and easy to understand, while allowing for complex builds for seasoned players.
• Discern the cards. Nyx is an interpretive RPG, with an implied setting. The book gives vague guidelines on what may be found, but it is up to the players and DM to collaboratively build their own, unique version of Nyx.
• Adventure eternal, O Nyx! Nyx is appropriate for both short sessions and long campaigns. The Nine Billion Worlds of Nyx contain anything the mind can fathom, and many things it cannot.
• Deeper Darkness yet...  The full release of Nyx has more enemies, items, crafting, ship combat, more Forms and Paths, and much, much more!
• There are two main files. The Free Beta is a heavily truncated version of the game, for people who would like to try out the system. The other version is the full game, which was initially crowdfunded on kickstarter.
